Buc Days: Children's parade cancelled, 5K run rescheduled due to expected heavy rain
Some Buc Days events will be cancelled or postponed due to expected heavy rainfall and possible flooding in Corpus Christi this weekend, the Buccaneer Commission announced on Friday.
The Driscoll Children's Parade, scheduled for Saturday morning, will be cancelled due to the strong probability of storms and excessive rains, a news release from the Buccaneer Commission stated.
The Buc Days 5K Run, also scheduled for Saturday morning, will be postponed to May 27 at 8 a.m.
Other Buc Days events, including the Rodeo Corpus Christi, the Shops at Treasure Island and the Robotic Rodeo will continue as scheduled. The Stripes Carnival will be open as weather permits, the release stated.
The Corpus Christi area is expected to see heavy rain this weekend and early next week with an increased chance for flooding beginning Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi.
A Flood Watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Friday and will remain in effect through Saturday evening. The Corpus Christi area could receive 3 to 4 inches of rain by Tuesday morning.
"The Public Works Department is prepared to place barricades in areas prone to flooding, including Flour Bluff, North Beach, and Las Colonias near La Volla Creek," the city of Corpus Christi said in a news release Friday afternoon. "High-water rescue vehicles also will be staged to respond to any potential emergencies."
