France open to UAE investments in nuclear industry, minister says
France is open to the United Arab Emirates investing in its nuclear energy industry, its finance minister said on Tuesday ahead of discussions in the Gulf state with UAE officials. Sources told Reuters in March that the UAE had approached several European countries about investing in their nuclear power infrastructure via its state nuclear power company. Finance Minister Bruno le Maire told reporters in Abu Dhabi that he would have discussions in the UAE to see whether the Gulf state was interested in investing in France's nuclear industry.

DUBAI (Reuters) -Syria's first lady, Asma al-Assad, has been diagnosed with leukemia, the Syrian presidency said on Tuesday, almost five years after she announced she had fully recovered from breast cancer. The statement said Asma, 48, would undergo a special treatment protocol that would require her to isolate, and that she would step away from public engagements as a result. In August 2019, Asma said she had fully recovered from breast cancer that she said had been discovered early.

Eli Lilly's diabetes drug tirzepatide gets approval in China
Eli Lilly said on Tuesday its diabetes drug tirzepatide has received approval from Chinese regulators, setting up intensifying competition with its Danish rival Novo Nordisk in the key Asian market. Novo Nordisk's popular diabetes drug Ozempic won approval from China in 2021 and the company saw sales of the weekly injection in the greater China region that includes Hong Kong and Taiwan double to 4.8 billion Danish Krone ($698 million) last year. Eli Lilly did not say when sales would begin in China or how many doses would be supplied.

Israeli forces kill at least 7 Palestinians in a West Bank raid
Israeli forces raided a militant stronghold in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, killing at least seven Palestinians, including a doctor, according to local authorities, in some of the deadliest violence in the territory since the war in the Gaza Strip erupted seven months ago. The military said its forces struck militants during the operation, which took place in the Jenin refugee camp adjacent to the city of Jenin in the northern West Bank, both of which have long been a bastion of armed struggle against Israel. The Palestinian Health Ministry said at least seven Palestinians were killed and another nine wounded.

TAIPEI (Reuters) -Lawmakers in Taiwan jostled, unfurled banners and shouted at each other on Tuesday in a dispute about efforts to widen parliament oversight pushed by the opposition, despite the anger of the ruling party, which says there has been no consultation. The squabble comes as Lai Ching-te took office on Monday as the new president, facing not only an angry China, which views him as a "separatist", but also a fractured parliament, after his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lost its majority. Several hundred people gathered outside parliament to protest against the reforms, and accused the opposition of working in concert with China and trying to kill democracy.
