Bob's closing Freehold Township store, but new Planet Fitness, Bath & Body Works opening

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - Apparel retailer Bob's Stores is closing its store at Freehold Raceway Mall.

A store closing banner has gone up on the outside of the store, which is located on the edge of the mall, off Trotters Way. It shares a building with Ashley Furniture.

A sale of the the store's contents is being advertised at prices 20% to 80% off.

A mall spokesperson said the mall has plans for the space. No further information was available. A representative of Bob's Stores could not be reached for comment.

SalonCentric, the professional beauty supply store, on Monday opened its new 3,500-square-foot store at Aldrich Plaza on Route 9 in Howell.

SalonCentric, located at 4065 Route 9, is open to licensed beauty professionals. "Salon Centric has earned a large and loyal following with salon professionals," said Kendal Hand-Freda, a leasing professional with Levin Management Corp. The company is the leasing and management agent for Aldrich Plaza.

"The new Howell store will be larger than a typical SalonCentric location, making it one of the brand's flagship shopping destinations," Hand-Freda said.

Hand-Freda and senior leasing representative E.J. Moawad arranged the long term lease.

"We're excited to be opening our newest location in Howell," said Gina Meggo, SalonCentric deputy president and chief customer experience officer.

Planet Fitness has opened at Shrewsbury Plaza on Route 35, completing its move from a basement space at Monmouth Mall in Eatontown. Planet Fitness converted a former A.C. Moore store in the shopping center.

The new 21,751-square-foot facility, located at 1026 Broad St., features cardio machines and strength equipment, 30-minute express circuits, numerous flat-screen television as well as locker rooms and showers.

Planet Fitness Shrewsbury is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 25 at 2 p.m. along with the launch from 4 to 6 p.m. of its High School Summer Pass initiative, a program that allows teens ages 14 to 19 to work out for free at any Planet Fitness location all summer.

There will be a $500 check presentation by Planet Fitness to the Boys & Girls Club at the event as well. There will be special membership offers, prizes and giveaways too.

Planet Fitness has 12 centers in Monmouth and Ocean counties. It caters to first-time and casual gym owners who may have never belonged to a gym before. It bills itself as a "judgment free zone" where members can exercise at their own pace without being judged.

Bath & Body Works opens its new store at the Howell Commons shopping center on Route 9 in Howell on Friday.

The new 4,000-square-foot store, at 4791 Route 9 North, is located in the former Sleeper’s Shoppe. Bath & Body Works sells body and home fragrances as well as soaps, body lotions, creams and candles.
