How Bishop Stang baseball beat Apponequet in first game on its new turf field

Bishop Stang’s bats erupted for 11 hits on Saturday in an 11-1 season-opening victory over Apponequet on the Spartans’ new turf field.

It was 2-1 entering the fifth inning when Stang put seven runs on the board.

Ryan Jones went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Jackson Tingley Prince was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Justin Gouveia was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Seamus Marshall was 2-for-3 with three RBIS and a run scored.

Andrew DiGiammo and Adyn Simmons each had their first varsity hits and both scored a run.

Marshall picked up the win, allowing one run off two hits and a walk with four strikeouts over four innings. Aidan Cardoza pitched two innings of relief, allowing one hit with three strikeouts.

For Apponequet, Liam MacPhail was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Justyn Machie and Maddoxx Rosyski each had a hit. Tanner Audyatis suffered the loss. The Spartans (1-0) visit Archbishop Williams on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

The Lakers (0-1) host Dartmouth on Wednesday.
