Are you the big winner? $2.2 million Maryland Lottery ticket sold on Eastern Shore

Another big lottery win has come to the Eastern Shore: One lucky player purchased a $2.2 million ticket in Eden on Thursday, Nov. 4.

The winner bought a jackpot-winning Multi-Match ticket, which now goes down has the second largest prize of the year, according to a release from the Maryland Lottery. A Baltimore County woman claimed a $2.75 million Multi-Match jackpot earlier this year on a ticket sold Feb. 4.

But even that win doesn't compare much to one Salisbury man who recently won a $2 million prize on Oct. 30 — for the second time in his life.

The 65-year-old man had first won $2 million playing the $2,000,000 Richer scratch-off game several years ago. He continued playing the game, and during the coronavirus pandemic, he bought two tickets at a local Exxon station and realized one of the scratch-off tickets had a "Gold Bar" emblem over a $2 million prize, Maryland Lottery officials said.

The man put the $2 million-winning ticket in a safe and waited until just before the expiration date to redeem it.

The winner said he planned to use the latest $2 million prize to pay for home improvements and a family vacation, according to the Maryland Lottery. The previous $2 million prize allowed him to retire and to take a family vacation, too.

The lottery paid more than $38.7 million in prizes during the first week of November, and 25 players across the state won or claimed prizes of $10,000 or more.

Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes of up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program locations.

All Maryland Lottery retailers are authorized to cash tickets up to and including $600. More information is available at mdlottery.com.
