Bats come out in force for Revere; Tanner Ware throws no-hitter; Firestone, Tallmadge roll

BASEBALL

Revere 12, Copley 3

Devin Donich blasted two doubles and a single on Thursday to lift visiting Revere (3-1, 2-1) over the Copley in a Suburban League American Conference game.

Dillon Carlquist (two singles, two RBIs), Andrew Froelich (single, double, RBI) and Nolan Williams (two singles, RBI) also were solid for the Minutemen.

Ben Halvorson picked up his first win of the season.

North Canton Hoover 6, Perry 0

Tanner Ware pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks to lift the Vikings (5-2, 4-2) over the Panthers (2-5, 1-4) in Federal League action.

Ware threw 82 pitches over seven innings to give Hoover back-to-back no-hitters against Perry. Nick Vardavas pitched a five-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and also hit a double and a home run and had three RBIs Tuesday in Hoover's 10-0 win.

Vardavas paced the Vikings again on Thursday with two singles, a triple and two RBIs. Hoover's Drew Stangelo contributed a single, a double and two runs scored and Tyler Evans had two RBIs.

Stow 12, Nordonia 6

The Knights' home opener started out well, as they led 4-0 after three innings.

Then a cascade of errors and timely Stow hits led to 12 unanswered runs for the Bulldogs in the middle innings.

The Bulldogs (5-3, 1-2 SLNC) benefited from three-run doubles by third baseman Jake Holmes and right fielder Frank Miller, along with a two-run pinch-hit single by Dom King. Joey Peters (2-0) picked up the win in relief for Stow.

Nordonia starting pitcher Dom Perrine pitched well in the first four innings. The Knights got an RBI double from Rocco Covelli.

CVCA 14, Mentor Lake Catholic 2

The Royals (9-1) were led by Otto Rogers (two singles, two runs, two RBIs) and Julian Hernandez (two singles, three RBIs) in a mercy-rule shortened game.

North Royalton 13, Hudson 12

Kale Michalak went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Bears. The Explorers were led by John Poole (two doubles, RBI, three runs).

Norton 16, Springfield 12

Justin Fuller, Jacob Ford and Caleb Ogg combined for three singles, three doubles, five runs and eight RBIs to lift the Panthers over the Spartans in a Metro Athletic game. Brady Hahn had a single, double and three RBIs for Springfield.

Highland 10, Cuyahoga Falls 1

Quinn Marquis, Sam Napier and Derek Evans combined for six hits, six RBIs and three runs in a the Hornets' (3-2, 2-1 SLAC) win over the Black Tigers (1-6, 0-4).

Kent Roosevelt 6, Tallmadge 2

Pitcher Logan Poole earned a win and Nate Stohovitch hit two singles, a double, scored three runs and had three RBIs for the Rough Riders (5-1, 3-1 SLAC) in a game at Kent State University’s Schoonover Stadium.

Louisville 7, Ellet 3

Zach Root went six innings and struck out eight to get the Leopards (6-4) a win over Ellet (3-2) at home.

Orrville 11, Fairless 3

The Red Riders posted a Principals Athletic Conference win at home. Daniel Malcuit picked up the win on the mound with offensive help from Sawyer Hamsher's three hits.

SOFTBALL

Twinsburg 5, Revere 3 (9)

Sydney Loffredo (two doubles, three RBIs) and Carli Genova (two singles) paced the Tigers (1-4) in a win over the Minutemen (4-2). Ava Ash (three singles) and Paige Kelley (two singles) led Revere.

Firestone 20, Our Lady of the Elms 0

Madison Dies and Katie Emery combined to throw a one-hitter for the host Falcons (5-0). Emery added two singles, a double, two RBIs and three runs. Firestone's Lauren Toth had three singles, two runs and two RBIs. Dies and Anna Morrow had two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Coventry 10, Woodridge 1

Savannah Regan and Alexis Jackson hit home runs for the visiting Comets (2-0, 1-0 Metro Athletic Conference). Kendal Gregory struck out six for the Bulldogs (1-3, 0-2).

Tallmadge 14, Kent Roosevelt 4

Marley Queen belted a three-run home run and had two singles for the Blue Devils (4-3, 3-1) in a Suburban League American Conference win. Mia Zappola added two doubles and three RBIs and Ella Bee was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Copley 7, Highland 1

Copley (6-4, 3-1) was led by Amanda Lillis (double, run), Sammy Gingris (double) and Caroline Deagan (seven innings, no earned runs, four strikeouts) in a Suburban League American Conference game at home against Highland (3-2, 1-2). Kennedy Steinbacher had a double for Highland.

Brecksville 2, Willoughby South 1

Emma Cozza hit a home run and pitched five innings to get the win for the host Bees (9-2).

BOYS TENNIS

CVCA 3, Kenston 2

The Royals were led by Griffin Bosshard and the doubles teams of David Van Hala and Carson Reske and Seth DeRoo and Liam O’Keefe in a win over the Bombers.

Hudson 5, Twinsburg 0

Kevin Si, Charles Yurak, Vince Petrucelli swept singles action, and the doubles teams of Nick Pineau-Ryan Pappano and Jack Sigler-James Tong won in a combined five sets.
