Barnstable boat owners could win three sought-after spots on marina waitlists
BARNSTABLE — Imagine ringing a doorbell on Halloween night, shouting out "Trick or Treat!" and receiving the treat of a potential marina spot in Barnstable.
That could happen, minus the trick-or-treating excursion, for 75 boat owners — but only if they purchase the chance to toss their names into the bucket. The Barnstable Harbormaster's office this month is holding a lottery for spots on three marina waitlists.
"This opportunity will allow individuals, if chosen, to add their name to a marina waitlist that is currently closed," the harbormaster's office indicated in an announcement of the lottery.
The prized spots are for Bismore Park Marina, Barnstable Harbor Marina and Gateway Marina in Hyannis Inner Harbor.
Tickets go on sale Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. The lottery will continue until Oct. 31 at midnight. On Nov. 2, at 1 p.m., a drawing will be held, with 25 names selected at random for each marina.

It also has a designated loading/unloading slip for picking up and dropping off passengers and offloading catch.

How to enter the lotteries
To buy a ticket, find the link to the lottery on the town's website at https://town.barnstable.ma.us/ or visit tinyurl.com/barnstable-marina-lottery and enter the lottery for the desired marina waitlist. Tickets are $15.
Those hoping for a chance to get on one of the waitlists may enter just one legal name per marina; the harbormaster's office warns that duplicate entries for the same marina will be disqualified.
Note that following selection, winners of each lottery will need to complete a formal application and pay a separate $25 fee to get on the waitlist.
Winners will receive an email notifying them of their selection; names will also be posted on the town website.
