Goldberg's Original Bagels, East Stroudsburg
There must be something in the water.
The carby nibbles at Goldberg's Original Bagels are hand-rolled daily using the traditional boiling method (bagels are placed in scalding water for a few minutes to develop a chewy crust) made famous in New York.
The options include sesame, everything, poppy, garlic, onion, pumpernickel, rye, whole wheat, whole wheat everything, egg, cinnamon-raisin, blueberry, rainbow, and bialy bagels.
Cream cheese also comes in hopping flavors (starting at $2.50 for a small container) including scallion, lox, sun-dried tomato, walnut raisin, honey-cranberry, strawberry, and our personal favorite, jalapeño.
Munch on this: It was busy on a Saturday morning when my colleagues and I stood in line, appetite in tow. We ordered the chorizo sausage, egg and cheese on an everything bagel and an onion bagel with bacon, egg and cheese (both cost $4.75), plus a plain sesame for $1. (A dozen bagels will set you back $12). The three of us left the joint with smiles on our faces and satisfied bellies.
Hours: 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Pocono Bagels and Deli, East Stroudsburg
Totally unassuming, yet tasty.
Pocono Bagels and Deli, a hole-in-wall fave among locals, serves delicious hoagies and breakfast sandwiches.
Bagel flavors include onion, everything, plain, sesame and cinnamon-raisin. You can top them with butter ($1.75), cream cheese, ($2.50), lox and cream cheese ($5.75) or if you're craving some comfort food, try peanut butter and jelly ($3).
Munch on this: We tried the pork roll with egg and cheese ($4.24) on a toasted everything bagel, which had the perfect amount of sliced ham, egg, gooey cheese and crispy flavor. For under five bucks, we'll return for this flavorful snack.
If you go: Staff recommend calling ahead to order food.
Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Closed Sundays.

Bagel Heaven, Tannersville
Were these bagels sent from above?
Set your alarm and wake up early to get your hands on what Bagel Heaven calls their "hole-e delights."
With more than 15 New York-style flavors (crowd-pleasers include French toast, blueberry, sun dried tomato, salt, sesame, and the classic everything), it's hard to choose which one to devour.
Instead, grab a dozen ($12) paired with some tubs of their cream cheese (vegetable, olive, lox, cinnamon walnut raisin, chives and strawberry).
Since we arrived later in the day some bagel bins were empty, so try to get there within the first few operating hours.
Munch on this: Breakfast sandwiches are served all day long and meaty choices include bacon, sausage, pork roll and ham.
We tried the everything bagel with egg, cheddar cheese and a schmear of cream cheese (because why not?) for $2.90.
The end result: a simply divine bite on a budget, topped with the perfect amount of seasonings, melted cheese and chewy goodness.
Hours: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to Sunday. Closed Mondays.
