AutoZone Liberty Bowl board names David Boston president

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl named David Boston, a veteran game volunteer who has served as event chairman, president of the 2022 AutoZone Liberty Bowl Festival Association.

Boston, who has volunteered with the Liberty Bowl for 25 years, will oversee the 64th edition of the storied event, AutoZone Liberty Bowl officials announced at a Thursday night reception and annual board meeting at the Sheraton Memphis Downtown Hotel.

"One of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl's key missions is to showcasea Memphis to the rest of the work through the various year-round community events conducted by the Association," Boston said in a statement. "It's an honor and privilege to serve as the 2022 president as the AutoZone Liberty Bowl shines a positive light on Memphis and continues to share the life-saving message of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital."

Steve Ehrhart, executive director of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, called Boston a stalwart volunteer who had been a key player over the last 25 years of the game. "We're excited about the experience, enthusiasm and dedication David brings" to the Association, Erhhart added.

This year's game is once again on Dec. 31 and will be televised on ESPN. The game time has not been determined.

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl Golf Classic, a major fundraising event, is June 6 at TPC Southwind. Steve Spurrier, the legendary former football coach of the Florida Gators and South Carolina Gamecocks, will receive the Distinguished Citizen Award at a Hilton Memphis dinner on June 5. Previous Citizen Award recipients have included Elvis Presley, Priscilla Presley, former Major League Baseball player Tim McCarver and Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning, who was honored last year.
