Arizona's Republican governor candidates to face off in only televised primary debate
The four Republicans seeking their party's nomination for governor will meet Wednesday in a televised debate.
It is the only televised meeting of the four candidates before the Aug. 2 primary scheduled at this time and comes just one week before early ballots go out.
Participating candidates are Kari Lake, Scott Neely, Karrin Taylor Robson and Paola Tulliani-Zen.
Matt Salmon dropped out of the race Tuesday, saying voters deserved better than having to split their votes. That was a reference to a popular view that Salmon and Taylor Robson appeal to the same voters, who could have divided their support between the two, leaving Lake with the support of the Trump base and enough votes to win the primary.
The debate will be broadcast at 5 p.m. on Arizona PBS station Channel 8. "Arizona Horizon" host Ted Simons and Arizona Republic politics reporter Stacey Barchenger will moderate the debate, which was organized by the Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission.
The debate will be rebroadcast at 10 p.m. Wednesday and on Thursday will be posted to websites for the Citizens Clean Elections Commission, Arizona PBS and azcentral.com.
There was not a televised Democratic debate for governor.
Katie Hobbs declined the invitation, leaving opponent Marco Lopez with no one to debate.
