Anthony Law receives Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award at Chamber luncheon
GALESBURG — Anthony Law was named the recipient of the 2021 Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award at the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Thanksgiving Luncheon on Monday.
Law was selected from a pool of several candidates. He has a long history of community service to Knox County including numerous charitable efforts along with participation in YMCA Solutions Program, Carver Community Action Board, CSC Hispanic-Latino Student Association and the Black Student Association, Sunrise Rotary, Salvation Army, Knox County Adopt-a-Highway Program, Galesburg NAACP, District 205, Goodwill/Watson Thomas Funeral Home Coat Drive, Juneteenth, the South Street Block Party, clean-up days, Walk to Fight Suicide Prevention Week, Taste of Galesburg and Martin Luther King Jr Day celebration.
Through his position as coordinator of diversity and Inclusion at Carl Sandburg College, he founded of Men of Distinction and Women of Character. These are two community service-oriented student organizations that encourage young people to give back and serve as leaders to younger students in our area. He has encouraged and inspired students for years to be like him. Earlier this year, Anthony Law received the Verne W. Dowers Exemplary Service Award from Rotary Club.
“What a complete honor it was to celebrate the award recipient this year!" said Pam Gaither, executive director at the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce. "Anthony is the example of a community servant. He is truly an inspiration to everyone.”
The 43rd Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon hosted by the chamber was held at Cedar Creek Hall on Monday. The event included a state of the city update from Mayor Peter Schwartzman, a keynote speech from Candace D’Agnolo, owner of Pet Boss Nation and local entrepreneur and the presentation of this year’s award was made by Steve Watts, the 2020 award recipient.
