Amarillo Fire Dept. crews rescue child from house fire Thursday morning
The Amarillo Fire Department responded to a Thursday morning house fire at 3403 SE 15th, which resulted in two injuries.
According to a news release, at 9:06 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a house fire with a baby reportedly trapped inside. The first arriving unit found a woman out front, pointing to the bedroom window, where the child was located and a paramedic was trying to reach through the window. Firefighters immediately dropped their hose line and jumped through the window.
Moments later, the firefighters brought out a child they had located in a crib and handed care over to an awaiting ambulance crew.
The second arriving crew made entry into the front door of the home, extinguished the fire and rescued three dogs, the release states. The fire was under control by 9:30 a.m.
The child was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation; their status was not available as of press time.
A paramedic who had arrived on the scene prior to the fire truck attempted to look in the window for the child and was pushed back out by the heat and smoke. The paramedic then covered himself with his jacket and tried to lean through the window again to search for the child, but there was no visibility and the smoke was too much. He also treated and transported the child, and then he was treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.
All other occupants made it out safely, AFD reported.
One dog was found dead inside the home.
Estimated damages were not available; the Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office has ruled this fire accidental.
