Alabama women's soccer gets first NCAA Tournament win, tops Clemson 1-0
Alabama women's soccer will play in the round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time after beating Clemson 1-0 on Friday afternoon in Clemson, S.C.
Allie Berk scored what would end up being the game-winning goal four minutes into the game. Riley Tanner was credited with the assist.
Coach Wes Hart is happy for the players and liked the effort in the first half.
"So proud of our team and so incredibly happy for them," Hart said. "We had a great start to the game. We were aggressive and confident from the start and were rewarded with a great goal.
"Second half, we hung on for dear life. Clemson threw everything at us. But credit to our players, we made huge plays when we needed them."
Alabama was outshot 20-9, with all nine Alabama shots coming in the first half. Goalkeeper McKinley Crone made four saves. It was Crone's sixth shutout of the season, tying her for fourth for shutouts in a season in school history.
Alabama has made the tournament three other times – in 1998, 2011 and 2017 – but was never able to advance out the first round.
Alabama will play the winner of Saturday's BYU-New Mexico game on Friday, Nov. 19, with place and time to be determined.
