Adrian College baseball splits with Kalamazoo
ADRIAN — For the first time since 2008, the Adrian College baseball team won't finish on top of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings.
The Bulldogs knew it going into the game as Hope knocked them out of contention with a win against Trine earlier in the week. With a split against Kalamazoo on Saturday, losing 14-5 and winning 12-6, Adrian will finish third by the Flying Dutchmen and Hornets.
Gage Ricker got the win in Game 2 for Adrian (21-17, 12-8 MIAA) as he went 1 2/3 innings and gave up one hit and struck out one.
Luc St. Antoine got the start and gave up four runs, three earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out two in three innings. Michael Swanson gave up two runs, on three hits in 3 1/3 innings and Jacob Hanoian walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth.
Ryan Davis went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run while Easton Rogers went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run.
Adrian High School graduate Ty Peck went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and three runs scored while stealing a bag.
Nathan Grega went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Kevin Cardentey was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Owen Brown went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run.
Joe Toth took the loss in Game 1 as he went three innings and gave up seven runs, on nine hits, a walk and four strikeouts.
Cardentey was 2-for-4 with a solo home run while Don Goodes went 3-for-4 with a triple.
