Ace of Trades: Geer Services is a family affair
WEST LAFAYETTE – Sometimes a family is also a business.
“My husband and I,” noted Rose Geer, “have a big family and I dedicated myself to being a stay-at-home mom. It wasn’t until most of our kids were in school that we decided to start our business as a way to earn an extra income. It has since become more than we could have hoped for.”
Rose, her husband Adam Geer, their nine children – and three employees – make up Geer Services LLC.
“We’re a one-stop-shop for all of your property needs,” Rose explained. “We offer handyman services, weekly residence trash refuse and moving.”
Rose (Kealiher) Geer grew up in Plainfield, the daughter of Kerry and Kathy Kealiher. She graduated from Ridgewood High School then went to Coshocton Career Center to study business management and marketing.
“From an early age,” she recalled, “I’ve always enjoyed meeting new people and hearing about their different experiences. I’ve always felt it’s important to show kindness and respect to others. It’s about doing the right thing. We should always help one another rise up in life.”
Diana Swigert experienced that first-hand when Geer helped her move some furniture.
“Rose guides her crew with respect for them and the client,” Swigert said. “The crew is friendly, polite and gentle with furniture. It’s a pleasure to watch while they work as a team.”
“I take pride in serving our community,” Rose responded. “Building my own business in the community I’ve grown up in feels like such a huge accomplishment. It’s been a lot of hard work. But the people I’ve met along the way have been the biggest blessing. I can only hope this is something I can continue to build on in the future.”
“Rose is a strong, hard-working person,” assessed her husband, Adam Geer, “who takes pride in the business she started with a little 5x10 trailer and lots of persistence and dedication. You won't find another business owner who works harder to work with each individual client.
“She not only dedicates herself to Geer Services,” he added, “but makes time for helping and donating to the community. I’m very proud of her.”
“We love spending time together,” responded Rose. “It’s such a great experience getting to share our hard work with our children. They get to learn the importance of hard work and persistence while serving our community.
“Family has always been super important to me,” she concluded. “My family growing up was always close and I always dreamed of raising a big family of my own. Building my own business with my husband and my children just came naturally.”
