Police in Greenland arrested prominent anti-whaling environmentalist Paul Watson under an international warrant issued by Japan, detaining him until August 15, authorities and his foundation said.Nuuk district court in Greenland "decided that Paul Watson would be detained until August 15 and the decision has been appealed in the High Court of Greenland", judge Stig Norskov-Jensen told AFP. Denmark's justice ministry will decide whether or not to extradite Watson to Japan, according to the police

Cyprus on Monday put on display artifacts — some of them thousands of years old — that were returned after a Turkish art dealer looted them from the ethnically divided island nation decades ago. Aydin Dikmen took the artifacts from the country's breakaway north in the years after Cyprus’ split in 1974, when Turkey invaded following a coup mounted by supporters of union with Greece. The antiquities were kept in Germany after authorities there seized them in 1997, and protracted legal battles secured their repatriation in three batches, the last one this year.

Verizon reported second-quarter revenue of $32.8 billion, compared with analysts' average estimate of $33.06 billion, according to LSEG data. Analysts have said Verizon is reeling from a historically low number of people upgrading their phones, although that could change when Apple releases its latest iPhones with artificial intelligence (AI) features, later this year. Verizon said it added 148,000 net monthly bill-paying wireless phone subscribers from April to June, above analysts' average estimate of 127,870 additions, according to Visible Alpha.
