6, including a child, injured in SPID crash near Sunrise Mall; driver facing charges
Six people, including a child, were injured after a man's truck rolled and hit six other vehicles in the Planet Fitness parking lot on South Padre Island Drive Monday afternoon. The man is facing three counts of intoxication assault, according to police.
Corpus Christi police said the 47-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, was traveling westbound in a white GMC truck at highway speed on the SPID access road when he lost control of the vehicle.
The truck sideswiped a vehicle and rear-ended another before entering the parking lot, Pace said. The vehicle began to veer sideways, flipped and struck other vehicles in the parking lot.
Six people, including the driver, were injured in the crash. All six were taken to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries, Pace said.
The driver is believed to be the most seriously injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition after the accident. He faces three counts of intoxication assault when he's released from the hospital.
