The 24th Annual Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl Fan Fiesta has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, El Paso Live posted on Facebook.

The Fan Fiesta usually brings together fans of the competing football teams with local performances and live music. It was scheduled for Thursday at the El Paso convention center.

A Sun Bowl Association press release stated that neither of the school bands and spirit squads would be able to show up and some vendors had to pull out of the event.

“This is the way things in the world are going, unfortunately,” said executive director Bernie Olivas. “With the bands and the cheer squads being the highlight of the event and keeping safety in mind, as this is an indoor event, we thought it’d be best to cancel for this year. We hope everyone remains safe and makes it out to the big game."

Plans for the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl have had some hiccups due to the coronavirus.

Miami had to pull out of the game Sunday night due to COVID-19 cases among players last week. Central Michigan now will play Washington State at 10 a.m. Friday in Sun Bowl Stadium.
