Whether you love it, hate it, or love to hate it, reality TV is everywhere, and it’s a versatile genre. Think about it: there are singing reality shows, cooking reality shows, game shows, and the ever-growing, ever-loved family-based reality shows.
Ever since the early 2000s, viewers have loved seeing a more vulnerable (and hilarious) glimpse into the lives of some of pop culture’s most iconic families. Just look at the Kardashians: people loved seeing inside their crazy lives so much that they got another show right after Keeping Up With the Kardashians ended.
Now, a new celebrity family just entered the mix, and it’s one that literally no one saw coming. Sylvester Stallone, his wife, and three gorgeous daughters are the newest family to dive into the reality TV world with their new show The Family Stallone. The new Paraomunt+ show is already started quite a few controversies in how Sylvester handles his grown daughters’ dating lives, and we’re only a few episodes in!
But what’s reality TV without some controversy?
From early 2000s staples like The Osbournes to lesser-known gems like Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross’ show Ashlee + Evan, there’s no shortage of family reality TV.

‘The Osbournes’
One of the most iconic early 2000s family reality shows is The Osbournes, which has still blessed us with relevant memes and iconic moments to quote on social media. The beloved show followed the rocker family adventures of Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy Osbourne, Jack Osbourne, Kelly Osbourne, Robert Osbourne, and their dog Minnie.

Okay, so this timeline is a bit messy. John and Kate Plus 8 started as a staple show about Kate Gosselin and Jon Gosselin, along with their eight kids. It ran from 2007 to 2017, and quite a few big things happened amid that decade. The pair divorced in 2009, and the show changed to Kate Plus 8, which focused more on Kate’s life as a single mom of eight, with Jon coming in less and less. (He’s actually quite estranged from his kids as of 2023, per Nicki Swift.)

Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood gave longtime fans a rare glimpse into his life as a hip-hop icon and proud papa. It lasted from 2007 to 2009, and was quite beloved up until its cancellation.

Ah, the Duggars: one of the first reality TV families. After quite a few name changes, 19 Kids and Counting lasted from 2008 to 2015, and it followed the Duggar family Jim Bob and Michelle, along with their 19 kids and grandkids’ life as devout Baptists. In recent years, many controversies have come out from the family and their actions.

‘Chrisley Knows Best’
Another now-controversial reality TV family is the Chrisley family, also known as the family from the beloved show Chrisley Knows Best. This show has been on since 2014 and it followed a real-estate-focused family and balancing it all. As of the summer of 2022, both the parents Todd and Julie were found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion.
